1st Sunday of Lent

Here is the bulletin for this upcoming Sunday.

Reminder to set your clocks one hour forward Saturday night as daylight savings time will start Sunday morning.

We will start our Lenten series on our way to the cross of Christ.

This Sunday, we will look at Deuternomy 24, Psalm 91, Romans 10, and Luke 4 that includes the story of the devil tempting Jesus.  .

I find myself studying and pondering the Catechism and I like using  this version of Luther’s Small Catechism.  It reads well on a mobile device.

I will be focusing on the petition, “Lead us not into temptation” with this explanation:

And lead us not into temptation.

What does this mean?

God indeed tempts no one to sin, but we pray in this petition that God would guard and protect us from this, that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or lead us into false belief, despair, and other great and shameful sins, but pray that when we are tempted in these ways, we may finally prevail and gain the victory.

I have been looking at the Large Catechism that expands upon the Lord’s prayer petition.  Here is a link to read the Book of Concord.

We will continue through Lent our study of the Psalms at 4pm each Tuesday at Our Saviour’s.

I also love the site www.1517.org.  It has some great podcasts (I love Outlaw God, 30 Minutes in the New Testament, and 40 minutes in the Old Testament.)  It also has a Bible Reading plan with one of my favorite authors (Chad Bird) providing video devotionals that you can follow if interested.

Have a blessed week in this Lenten season.

In Christ
